Government and Non-Profit

  • Opportunities in policy and beyond
  • Embarking on a career in the public sector
  • Hear from industry professionals (former postdocs)

This cluster comprises the rich range of opportunities available to you within varied bodies in the public and third sectors including: the civil service, central and local government, charities and foundations, international development organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and intergovernmental organisations (IGOs).

Roles in policy and beyond

Roles in policy may immediately come to mind when considering how your research experience could transfer to employers within this sector and we explore these in the Policy resources below.

There are a range of opportunities beyond policy within this cluster (and indeed there are policy roles within many of the other clusters), communications and public relations (PR), project management and contract management to name just a few.

We’ve also engaged with national charities The Reader and Good Things Foundation, as well as smaller specialist charities such as the SCI foundation which carries out research and delivers programmes related to neglected diseases in sub-Saharan Africa.

Below is a curated collection of videos and resources around specific topics. You can navigate the blocks using the arrows and click on the one you wish to view. Playlists will load into the space above.
